Monet and Japonisme
April 20-April 26, 2026 - Japan
To honor Monet’s legacy on the 100th anniversary year of his passing, AFMO will host an exclusive trip to Japan in April 2026. The week-long trip is conceived as an invitation to discover Japan’s culture, heritage and savoir-faire and better appreciate the fascination Monet and his contemporaries experienced upon the country’s transformation and opening in the Meiji era.
In the spring of 2026, the Artisan Museum in Tokyo will present Monet: Questioning Nature, a unique exhibition held in partnership with the Musée d’Orsay.
Organized in celebration of the centenary of Monet's death, this exhibition closely traces the development of Monet’s career through places, including Le Havre, Argenteuil, Vetheuil, and Giverny, and periods significant for describing his work. It will also elucidate his creative context and inspirations by examining paintings, photographs, ukiyo-e prints and Art Nouveau crafts from the same era. It will also include an immersive video, a tribute to Monet by contemporary artist Ange Leccia.
This exhibition will display 90 works from the Musée d’Orsay, including more than 40 of the paintings by Monet that are the museum’s pride and joy, plus works from the Artizon Museum, other museums in Japan, and private collections.
The week long itinerary (7 days and 6 nights) will take AFMO guests from Tokyo to Kyoto and will include unique tours and conversations away from crowds.
We will also enjoy exclusive meals, including a special dinner at Esterre by Alain Ducasse in Tokyo celebrating French and Japanese culinary heritage.
The trip is open to International Collectors and above, and capacity is very limited to ensure the best access and privacy.
Our partner agency in Japan will be able to offer complementary packages to travellers wishing to extend their stay, including to the world famous contemporary art museum islands of Naoshima and Teshima.
