Fondation Custodia Archives
On March 28th, AFMO hosted a special private visit at Fondation Custodia, the ‘home of works on paper’ in France, to explore their archives collection with director Stijn Alsteens.
Foundation Custodia, the hidden treasure on Rue Lille was founded in 1947 by the collector and art historian Frits Lugy and his wife Jacoba Lugt-Klever to house their collection of drawings, prints and paintings. The collection has over 7,000 old master drawings, 15,000 prints, and 450 paintings at the 18th-century mansion Hôtel Turgot. The Foundation also has a remarkable collection of rare books, portrait miniatures, paintings, antiquities, stained glass, antique frames, sculptures, furniture and Chinese porcelain.
