From his earliest support of the Barbizon School to the international recognition of Impressionism, Paul Durand-Ruel played a decisive role in the emergence of modern art. As a collector, dealer, and patron, he championed artists including Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Camille Pissarro, Alfred Sisley, and Eugène Boudin, while also supporting Eugène Durenne, Gustave Loiseau, Henry Moret, and many other painters whose names are now inseparable from the history of the Durand-Ruel gallery. This October, Christie's brings together works that have remained in the family's possession for generations for an auction that is sure to offer a rare insight into this dynasty of visionary collectors.

Christie’s invites AFMO’s patrons to join them for a talk focused on the Durand-Ruel collection, in French, with art historian and art market specialist, Valentina Castellani, who has held senior positions at Sotheby’s and Gagosian and is now an independent art dealer and lecturer at NYU.
