This fall, the Petit Palais will present the first ever monographic exhibition dedicated to the Impressionist painter, Eva Gonzalès, an artist who for too long now has been overshadowed by the giants of Impressionism. The only student of Édouard Manet, for whom she also served as a model, this precocious Parisian developed a singular voice, poised between the rigor of her mentor and the fresh sensibility of a generation that was reinventing the painting of modern life. Intimate portraits, domestic scenes, luminous pastels, and delicate seascapes comprise a refined body of work, tragically cut short by her death at the age of thirty-four, just days after Manet's. By bringing together a wide range of paintings and works on paper, this first global monograph rectifies an injustice and allows us to appreciate the originality of an artist who was fully engaged with her time.
AFMO invites their guests to an exclusive, before-hours, guided visit of Eva Gonzalès (1847-1883), A Free-Spirited Artist’s Journey at the Petit Palais, on Thursday, November 5th, 2026 at 9:00 AM
